SUBJECT: REASONS WHY ECL WILL REMAIN AT PLOT ONE AFTER 11TH AUGUST POLLS
Good people of this great nation of the sovereign state of Zambia, I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ as I stand on firm and solid grounds to share in advance why our current republican President will win the national first ever quadruple polls to be witnessed in the post independence Zambian era.
Zambia is rapidly sliding in a failed economy largely because of the global conditions that have been projected by the MFI to see a slow or reduced growth for 2016. However, since it is true that you ripe what you sow, the first three years of the current government meant well to open and link up the country which is landlocked and surrounded by nine neighbouring countries to a road linked nation and this saw massive infrastructure development which unfortunately was derailed by lack of supervision and many contractors thought the advance payments they received were actually manna from heaven and so they opted to enrich their pockets than participate in national development. These projects drained the national coffers to a point where other variables in the market space could not have any positive impact because the kwacha has had its legs cut off and can1t move at the required pace like other nations currencies. The six to eight yearly circle of copper prices has just compounded the poor performance of our economy.
However, all hope is not lost owing to the austerity measures the Lungu administration has put in place to tighten some lose ends which were created though their pioneer leader who was very ambitious us to see that all parts of this country got a fair share of the nation cake during his reign as a man of action. He meant it with whole his heart and mind committed to it.
Pointers why Lungu will remain at plot on after August 11th polls.- A brief walk through my mind
This is the first a sitting President has managed to remove any form of discrimination of who a Zambian is and almost single handily campaigned for dual citizenship inclusion in the constitution. The Kaunda regime introduced a single party managed government where it became the PIG i.e. the Party and its Government. The Chiluba regime segregated and discriminated who a Zambian was and the role parents played for one to qualify to be called a Zambian or later become leader of this great nation. The Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, my President, made his intentions clear to make it simple for one to qualify as a Zambian and while his colleagues had a target to include a clause that was pointing to one individual to bar him from ever becoming president but Levy throw it out and insisted that the constitution was not going to be a rushed through document but needed a level headedness approach . This was urged by many and sadly, he died before he could continue his noble cause. Our fourth President was on auto pilot but he is credited to have been a President with a scissor who was completing what ordinarily my President Levy could have completed if he lived to his full term. Levy left enough national reserves for the national cake which RB could not even have used a quarter because of his mainly unplanned movements anywhere and everywhere. Apparently, he is said to have transformed one of the rooms at State house into a bar and the rest is history now. Our 5th President was a highly pragmatic person who did not work within the confines of a budget. If it were possible to just say this or that happens he could have passionately done it. He was truly a President for all Zambians. While he was committed to a better constitution, his ministers derailed his plans. He was however motivated to give us a new constitution. The 6th President did it and that is what stands out for him. He accented to it.
2.0 Benefits from the Amended Constitution
For the first time, voter registration has been made as a continuous exercise and apart from the first young voters attaining the voting age, another credible group of new voters has been created for those now with dual citizenship. The latter voters might even vote uniformly for ECL as opposed to the younger voters who are expected to be split based on their political divide. This work well for ECL.
3.0 Social cash Transfers
In a town set up, a ZMW70 can finish in a one spot spend while in a village set up this could forever be treasured like manna from heaven especially if done regularly. Such voters are too religious to change with any form of wave of change. This will be and large go for ECL.
4.0 Market empowerment Presidential initiative .
Think of a guy who has been helping to lift loads of tomato boxes daily and earns a ZMW 40 per day now gets a small loan to run his own business. He will forever remain grateful to the originator especially when his business starts doing well and he can see it will his own two naked eyes. Of course those from the opposition will infiltrate such an initiative but those who will strongly feel empowered through this initiative will forever remain indebted to ECL and give him another term.
5.0 Presidential running mate.
This might be the undoing of some opposition leaders who might have been dealt a low blow to knock them off even in the first round. However, this might work well for ECL if he does his balancing act properly. His running mate could have been preference for a woman but the stakes are high and might not want to leave it to chance. And so his running mate might come from Luapula, Northern, Northern Western, Western or Copperbelt in this same order for a fellow man. However, should it be a woman, then his choice could shift to either Southern or Western Province respectively.
6.0 The Women vote
Having created history to have a woman vice President for the first time in Zambia has earned him many kudos especially that women outnumber the men votes by far. Women rarely change their choices perhaps because of their obedience from the teachings in the Bible about submissiveness to their husbands. This might slightly be different only for the young ladies who are yet to establish themselves politically.
7.0 Tribal divide.
ECL will be credited to have been the first President to have run a cabinet with opposition figures without any provision of a coalition government. Levy started this method but was short of taking it to the next level of full cabinet ministers. This has positioned him very well for wanting to involve all Zambian in the governance of this nation over and above their tribal lines. Infact, after the nation was polarised following the 20th January 2015 presidential polls, ECL is likely to get some sympathy votes from other tribes which previously voted against him because they have seen their “own” in his government now.
8.0 MMD Alliance factor
The MMD was in power for at least 20 years as the mother of multiparty democracy and we are an established party that still commands some recognition in many parts of the country even today. I am not ashamed to say that I am still a member of the party I love not because of anything but maybe it could be because of the colour BLUE. Those of you who are football lovers know what I am referring to.
9.0 Public Universities Respond
The response that government will provide towards the ever continuous impasses with mainly the two public universities i.e. UNZA and CBU will equally play a pivotal role in ECL`s victory. Make them happy and they will respond to him with a better thank you vote than an expulsion vote for him.
10.0 Economic responses.
Following the job losses mainly in the mining and mining related companies, the opposition may have seen an opportunity in this situation. However, the conforming thing is that the Chinese spell a crisis and opportunity with the same letters. This means the crisis currently being experienced could be an opportunity for ECL to take firm and bold decisions that will be appealing to the effected families. People like solutions which will give them lifelong benefits than mere lip service which is full in the mouths of many opposition leaders. Remember that the noise made by something full with content is less when compared to that made by one which is empty.
In my conclusion, I have exercised a lot of abundance of caution to avoid dealing on incumbency and nomination fees because in a set up where no single political will go in it alone and expect to win has evaporated under the new amended constitution. This President has opened up his high office to equal competition which his five past Presidents feared to do and has positioned himself on equal footing by abolishing the retired President housing initiative which has not worked well so far.
I could have written volumes about my personal views which are not representative or directed by anyone but by myself accordingly to what I feel I can contribute to my mother Zambia. Those of my members on the political insights what’s up forum will attest to the fact that I had promised to share these ten points which are not related to anything that will be spoken or given as prophesy as we head closer to the poll date. Also his stand on Christian beliefs and to build a national centre will now appeal to many Christians to have such a leader at the helm of government resources to complete what he has started, a good cause.
I beg to move on without any personal liability over my stolid views which will not be changed by anyone despite the amount of persuasion I might be subjected to after this sharing.
Let it off your chest and express it. No need to keep it to yourself. If my party MMD resolves their differences, I will definitely vote on party lines for all our candidates but if the status duo remains them ECL and his team will have my vote.
