NYIRENDA NAMES 7 U-20 STARS FOR ALGERIA CLASH

Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda has unveiled his 31 member provisional squad for back to back Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Algeria.

During a media briefing at Football House, Nyirenda has named seven U-20 players with an amnesty extended to the Lusaka Dynamos duo of Fwayo Tembo and Clatous Chama who have been recalled.

Nyirenda has also named 2012 Africa Cup winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene as captain of the side in the absence of Rainford Kalaba who is suspended after having accumulated two yellow cards in the match against Nigeria and Cameroun.

According to the list the technical bench has added 2017 Total U-20 Africa Cup winners and World Cup quarter finalists in Patson Daka, Enock Mwepu, Fashion Sakala, Emmanuel Banda, Edward Chilufya, Moses Nyondo and Boston Muchindu.

The team will enter into camp on Sunday August 27 with the match scheduled for Heroes Stadium.

Zambia will fly straight into Constantine Algeria after the first leg at Heroes Stadium for the second leg that will be held three days later,

FAZ secretary general Ponga Liwewe announced that U-20 coach Beston Chambeshi had been elevated to an assiatant role at the senior team.

KACHINGA TRIMS COSAFA WOMEN TEAM

Zambia Women National Team coach Albert Kachinga has trimmed his squad to 27 players after one week of drilling the 2017 Cosafa Castle Cup bound team.

Kachinga has dropped eleven players from his 37 member squad as the team shapes up for the Cosafa Women Championship that will be held in Bulawayo next month.

The team went through the paces at Edwin Imboela Stadium this morning.

Among the players dropped are Memory Chansa (Konkola Blades), Astridah Pupe (Moba Queens), Carol Nsama (Mufulira Wanderers), Sharon Chileshe (Green Buffaloes), Elizabeth Mutale (Green Eagles) and Marjory Mulenga (Moba Hotel).

The rest are Grace Nanyinza (Indeni), Jacqueline Nkole (Indeni), Chiko Nkhoma (Red Arrows), Elina Mbewe (National Assembly) and Natasha Witika (Zesco United).
Kachinga has summoned Red Arrows’ Rachael Lungu to fire up the team’s attack.

The 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship will bring together 12 nations competing for regional honours at the finals in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from September 13-24.

The event will bring together 11 of the 14 countries from the region, as well as East African guest nation Kenya.

The COSAFA nations that have entered the championship are Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and hosts Zimbabwe.

Draws for the pool stages will be made on August 23 in Johannesburg.

BARBARA SPELLS OUT SHIPOLOPOLO COSAFA DREAM

With the Zambia Women National Team preparing for the 2017 Cosafa championship the Fazfootball.com crew caught up with skipper Barbara Banda on the team’s expectations going into the tournament.
